사기꾼인지, 천사인지

 

몇 달 전부터 지속적으로 오는 영문메일이 있다.

내가 이 메일을 받은 날짜는 5월 11일, 6월 10일, 6월 27일, 7월 6일 등 이다.

 

 

“코트디브아르에 산다는 여인인데

남편이 아이보리코스트의 쿠웨이트 대사관에서 9년간 일했고,

남편이 급작스럽게 2004년에 사망하였으며,

 

남편이 죽기 전 기독교인이 되었고,

본인은 이후 다시 결혼하거나 입양하지 않기로 결심하였으며,

남편은 죽기 전 2,500,000달러를 코트디브아르 은행 구좌에 맡겨놓았고,

 

본인도 암 선고를 받았고

남편이 맡겨놓은 펀드를 교회나 개인에게 기부하겠다는 결심을 하였고

교회가 고아, 과부, 선교 등에 써주기를 바란다.“

 

 

이제 본인은 14일 정도의 수명이 남아 있고 자신의 건강상태를 안 남편의 친척들이 둘러싸고 있어 전화는 할 수 없다며, 메일로 답을 받는 대로 아부잔에 있는 은행과 연결시켜 주겠다는 내용이다.

 

그러나 8년 전 지인 한 분이 거액을 기부하겠다는 서신을 받고 현지 대사관, 주한국 대사관 등에 확인을 한 결과 사기메일이란 것이 밝혀진 적이 있다.

 

이번 메일은 통상적인 내용과는 약간 다르게 종교와 시한부 인생을 강조하는 점이 다르다. 

몇 년 전에도 비슷한 내용의 메일을 받은 적이 있는데 특이한 것은 이번 메일은 지속적으로 오고 있다는 것이다.

 

이 내용이 정말 사실이라면 내가 좋은 일을 할 기회를 놓치는 것이 되겠지만 그렇게 중요하고 다급한 내용을 단순하게 익명의 다수에게 보내 결정한다는 것이 정말 안 되는 이야기이다. 

 

이런 내용의 메일이 지속된다는 것은 누군가가 이것이 사실이라는 것을 믿고 답을 보내고 사기를 당하고 있기 때문이라고 본다.

 

요즈음 그렇게 보이스 피싱을 주의하라고 해도 속는 사람이 줄기는커녕 피해액수는 는다고 하니 모르긴 몰라도 보이스 피싱 수법이 진화하는 것일 것이다.

 

이 메일에 대해 생각해보다가 잠시 망상을 해보았다.

누군가 정말 거액을 내놓는다면 정말 보람 있게 잘 써줄 자신은 있는데^^

이래서 사기꾼의 수법이 통하리라.

I am the above named person from Kuwait . I am married to Mr Benson Williams,

who worked with Kuwait embassy in Ivory Coast for nine years before he died in the

year 2004. We were married for eleven years without a child. He died after a brief

illness that lasted for only four days. 

 

Before his death we were both born again Christian. Since his death I decided not to

remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is against. When

my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of $2. 5 Million (Two Million Five

Hundred U.S. Dollars) in the bank here in Abidjan in suspense account. 

 

Presently, the fund is still with the bank. Recently, my Doctor told me that i have

serious sickness which is cancer problem. The one that disturbs me most is my

stroke sickness. Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a

church or individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein.

I want a church that will use this fund for orphanages, widows, propagating the word

of God and to endeavour that the house of God is maintained. 

 

The Bible made us to understand that blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this

decision because I don’t have any child that will inherit this money and my husband

relatives are not Christians and I don’t want my husband’s efforts to be used by

unbelievers. I don’t want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly

way. This is why I am taking this decision. I am not afraid of death hence i know

where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. Exodus

14 VS 14 says that the Lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace. 

 

I don’t need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence

the presence of my husband’s relatives is around me always I don't want them to

know about this development. With God all things are possible. As soon as I receive

your reply I shall give you the contact of the bank here in Abidjan . I want you and

the church to always pray for me because the Lord is my shepherd. My happiness is

that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that wants to serve the Lord must

serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.
